A seaside town located between Plymouth and Boston, Scituate is named after the brook that runs through town and empties into the harbor. Like many of the idyllic coastal communities along the South Shore, ocean based recreation, such as fishing, sailing, swimming, and lounging on the beach, is popular among the residents. Seven different neighborhoods comprise Scituate: Greenbush, Minot, Humarock, Third Cliff, North Scituate, Sand Hills, and Egypt.
Scituate’s maritime history pervades to this day. The town, although mainly residential now, still has a small fleet of fisherman. Every August, the residents organizes a Heritage Day festival in order to commemorate the founding of their serene, seaside haven. Route 3A serves as the main road that runs through the town, but Routes 3, 123, 228, and 53 cut through neighboring Norwell. The MBTA’s Greenbush Line on the commuter rail makes 2 stops in Scituate and connects to Boston’s South Station.
